My dining partner and I slid our way across the untreated pavements and arrived just a few minutes late for our 6.30pm booking. The pre-theatre menu had a nice selection of dishes, although vegetarians are limited to just one main course. We skipped starters and went straight for the mains – I had risotto with roasted Mediterranean vegetables, feta cheese and saffron oil, while my partner had salmon served on a seafood linguine. The risotto portion initially looked a bit small, but actually it was just right. The vegetables could have done with a bit more in the way of roasting, but otherwise it was very nice dish. The salmon, meanwhile, went down well and was beautifully cooked. We both had the delicious lemon chiffon tart for dessert, lovely light pastry filled with a creamy yet tangy lemon filling and served with a spoon of chantilly cream, a sharp red fruit sorbet, and a drizzle of red fruit sauce. Tea and coffee was served with a small square of fudge, which was very soft and may have had white chocolate in it – far too sweet for both of us though! Two courses from the pre-theatre menu cost us £16.50 (a pound more than the current price on the website), while two soft drinks (we weren’t charged for the tea and coffee) brought the total to about £37. As always, the service was great. Friends of Aberdeen Performing Arts get 10% here, as do Friends of The Belmont Picturehouse. A lovely meal, and best of all we didn’t have to slide our way back outside to get to the theatre!
